What’s Happening
I recently returned from the Mobile Rock and Gem Show sponsored by the Mobile Rock and Gem Society in November. Over the last few years, the show has come into its own. There is a wide selection of vendors. Beautiful gems abound~
Speaking of beautiful gems, I paired an American lemon opal and spectralite for a new piece in my Shield series. These are two of my favorite stones. The colors are beautiful together.
If you are seeking a unique piece of jewelry with shimmery stones, consider the Labradorite and Lemon Opal Pendant – a key piece of my Shield series.
Stones used for the Labradorite and Lemon Opal Pendant
Labradorite: feldspar; luminous, stunning stone; named for Canadian region from which it was found. Said to have metaphysical properties of good fortune; and aura protection. Labrodorite is structured in layers and results in “labradorescence” wherein light is reflected and separated into many colors.
Opal was formed millions of years ago. It is said to be a stone of emotional stability.
The process of making the labradorite and lemon opal pendant follows:
Step 2: Cut the sterling silver and stamped it with my maker’s mark.
Step 3: Revised the design. Design can be an organic process for me as I may change my original design to follow the whisper of the stones and metal. I’m generally happier with the intuitive design process that flows than following a rigid design. This is one of the reasons for making one of a kind pieces – happiness!
Step 4: Soldered labradorite section, sterling wire section and opal section together.
Steps 5 and 6: Finished/polished the piece and added a patina to reflect the palette of the stones.
